Portsmouth woman arrested after allegedly driving under the influence, assaulting police officer

PORTSMOUTH, R.I. (WLNE) — The Portsmouth Police Department said a woman was arrested for allegedly driving under the influence and assaulting a police officer.

66-year-old Marsha Turner, of Portsmouth, was charged with driving under the influence of liquor or drugs – 3rd or subsequent offense, simple assault or battery, and resisting legal or illegal arrest.

On July 9, police responded to a report of a vehicle owned by Turner allegedly “operating erratically” on East Main Road.

When officers found the vehicle, they allegedly observed more violations and pulled the vehicle over.

During initial investigation, police said officers found probable cause to arrest Turner for DUI.

While Turner was being taken into custody, she allegedly resisted and assaulted one officer.

On Tuesday, a spokesperson for Portsmouth police said the officer was not hurt.

Turner was arraigned and ordered not to drive.
