PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A Providence mail carrier was threatened with a knife by a porch pirate on July 29, according to Providence police.

The incident occurred on Bellevue Avenue at approximately 1:14 p.m. when the mail carrier dropped off two packages at the front door of a residence on the street.

He stated that a Hispanic male with short hair, facial hair in a gray shirt, black pants and black shoes picked up the packages and began walking away with them.

The mail carrier approached the male and told him to return the packages and was ignored as the subject continued walking on Bellevue Avenue towards Cranston Street.

He followed the male who then brandished a knife and said “If you don’t move away Ima stab you.”

The mail carrier returned to his work van and called police.

He stated that the subject fled on foot on Messer Street and possibly turned on Kenwood Street towards the park.

Anyone with information in this case is asked to contact the Providence Police Department at 401-272-3121.
