Powder found on mail at Cranston High Security Center

CRANSTON, R.I. (WLNE) — A staff member at the Rhode Island Department of Corrections (DOC) High Security Center found a “powdery substance” Monday morning while processing incoming mail, according to the Rhode Island Department of Corrections.
The emergency safety protocol was initiated and the Cranston Fire Department was notified, according to a statement from DOC Public Information Officer J.R. Ventura.
Three correctional officers who were exposed to the substance underwent decontamination protocol outside of the facility and were cleared of any risk without further medical concerns.
The substance was tested by the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management, finding it did not contain any contaminants.
Regular operations are expected to resume soon and no one was injured during the incident.
