PPSD to discuss future of takeover ahead of school year

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The Providence Public School District is holding a board meeting ahead of the new academic year.
On the agenda is a scheduled discussion and possible vote on the continued state intervention of Providence Public Schools that will be followed by a public comment session.
Last week, the Rhode Island Department of Education released a report evaluating the progress of the state’s intervention in the PPSD.
The state took control of the district in 2019.
Education Commissioner Angélica Infante-Green said the district is moving in the right direction, but more work needs to be done.
Today’s meeting is at 6 p.m.
According to the report, the Education Commissioner would ultimately need to exit PPSD from the state intervention.
