Presentation to be held for Good Samaritan in Coventry
COVENTRY, R.I. (WLNE) – The Coventry Fire District is holding a presentation to commemorate the heroic actions of a man who saved a woman’s life after she was impaled by a tree branch last month.
Chief Frank Brown said the celebration will be held on Thursday, January 11, at 11:00 a.m. at the Hopkins Hill Fire Station.
Brown said Coventry Fire crews dealing with a severe rainstorm on December 18 received a call for a branch that had fallen and struck a vehicle.
When they arrived on the scene, Brown said crews saw a 34-year-old woman whose vehicle was struck by a two-foot branch that had pierced the windshield and impaled her upper thigh.
A Good Samaritan advised crews that he had placed a ratchet strap above the wound to stop the heavy bleeding, which saved the woman’s life, according to Brown.
