Prisoner attempts to smuggle drugs into detention center while awaiting murder trial

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — United States Attorney Zachary Cunha announced today that a Connecticut man was sentenced today for arranging to smuggle drugs into the Donald W. Wyatt Detention Facility.

Officials said Williams-Bey arranged to smuggle synthetic cannabis into the detention center on multiple occasions.

Williams-Bey was awaiting trial on charge of a premeditated murder and the 2013 shooting death of a man, according to records.

Antwane Williams-Bey, 33, pleaded guilty to the following charges:

  • Conspiracy to provide and possession of contraband in prison
  • Attempted possession of contraband by an inmate

He was sentenced to serve 24 months.
