Pro wrestling legend Hulk Hogan dies at age 71

CLEARWATER, FL (WLNE) — Professional wrestling legend Terry “Hulk” Hogan has died at the age of 71, according to ABC News and the Associated Press.

Born Terry Gene Bollea, Hogan died Thursday according to the Clearwater Police Department and World Wrestling Entertainment.

“WWE is saddened to learn WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan has passed away,” a WWE statement said.

“One of pop culture’s most recognizable figures, Hogan helped WWE achieve global recognition in the 1980s. WWE extends its condolences to Hogan’s family, friends, and fans.”

Hogan began his career in 1977 in what was then the World Wrestling Federation (WWF).

He appeared in matches for numerous other professional wrestling companies throughout his career.

He retired from wrestling in 2012.

According to the AP, Hogan was pronounced dead of cardiac arrest at a hospital.
