Probationary Providence Police officer arrested on multiple narcotics charges

PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WLNE) — The Pawtucket Police Department said that two people, including a female Providence Police Officer, were arrested after a month long joint investigation by the Special Squad Narcotics Detectives and the Providence Police Department.

25-year-old Destiny Viera, of Providence, was charged with manufacturing/delivering/possession with intent to manufacture/deliver a controlled substance, drug conspiracy, distribution or manufacturing in or near schools, and  keeping or maintaining a common nuisance.

24-year-old Jaylan Lopez, of Pawtucket, was charged with manufacturing/delivering/possession with intent to manufacture/deliver a controlled substance, drug conspiracy,  distribution or manufacturing in or near schools, maintaining a common nuisance, and felony conspiracy.

Viera was a probationary officer with the Providence department who had begun working in September 2024.

According to Providence Deputy Press Secretary Samara Pinto, Viera “was newly hired and on probation and will no longer be employed by the City of Providence.”

“She was arrested and so, based on the seriousness of the allegations and the standards that we uphold in the Providence Police Department, this individual will not be retained by the police department,” Chief Oscar Perez said.

Both suspects are expected to be arraigned on June 28.
