Prosecution rests in Brian Walshe murder trial, defense to present case

DEDHAM, Mass. (WLNE) — The prosecution has rested in the murder trial of Brian Walshe under two weeks into the case.

Walshe’s defense is up next to counter the state’s accusation that the defendant murdered his wife, dismembered her body and disposed of it in dumpsters throughout Cohasset in 2023.

The prosecution presented a witness Wednesday who was one of the last people to see Ana Walshe alive.

Gem Mutli met with the couple on New Year’s Eve in 2022, and received a call from Brian Walshe days later saying Ana Walshe was missing.

Mutli said that the defendant claimed she had left for a work emergency on New Year’s morning.

The final state witness was Alissa Kirby, a close friend of the Ana Walshe, who claims Ana confided that she was at a “breaking point” in her marriage.

The defense argued that the prosecution failed to prove their case, a motion denied by Judge Diane Freniere.

Walshe’s legal team will present their case starting Thursday morning in Dedham.
