Providence firefighters and the City of Providence have signed a tentative agreement. The announcement comes after 14 months of heated debate.
In September the two sides announced they had negotiated a deal.
“The truth is, once we got the City’s outside council out of the way, it moved forward rather quickly,” said Providence Fire Union President Paul Doughty.
In a press release Monday night, Doughty says the deal will save taxpayers almost $15 million dollars.
The agreement would place firefighters back on a four-platoon system. It’s something they’ve been fighting for since last August.
The agreement still needs to be approved by the Finance Committee, City Council and union membership.
