Providence 48 Hour Film Project Hosts Awards Night
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE)– The Providence ’48 Hour Film Project’ hosted an awards ceremony at RISD Thursday night to screen short films and recognize the filmmakers who took part in the unique and challenging project.
The annual event gives film crews 48 hours to come up with a short film in a random genre.
ABC6 StormTracker meteorologist and proud momma Kelly Bates was there supporting her son Nathan, whose film was screened first.
His team’s short film called ‘History According to Terry Nuorlans’ is a mockumentary/comedy that follows the story of a character named Terry who tries to teach history to others, but only succeeds at spreading misinformation and chaos.
Nathan spoke to ABC6 News about the challenges he faced during the 48 hour window.
“We had to cut a lot of funny, material, a lot of it was improvised,” Riley said. “There wasn’t that much of a script. I think that worked to the movies advantage. But otherwise, because of the time constraint we had to cut a lot of stuff that was already filmed and what I think was funny.”
‘Fudge for Everybody Productions’ came in third place with its short film for best picture. Second place went to Michael T Films for ‘Dancing’. ‘Break’ by This is Entertainment won the top prize and now moves on to compete at Filmpalooza in Lisbon, Portugal.
