Providence Animal Control officer accused of assaulting detective

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The Providence Police Department said that a city Animal Officer allegedly assaulted a detective during a narcotics search at a store on Chalkstone Avenue.

27-year-old Kevin Duffy was charged with simple assault on a police officer, resisting arrest, and obstructing a police officer in the execution of duty.

Police said they were executing the search when Duffy allegedly entered the store despite being told it was closed for an investigation.

Duffy then allegedly made “physical contact with a detective” and was taken into custody.

The department said Duffy was employed by animal control but was on leave with pay.
