Providence Board of Licenses orders Levels Lounge to close for weekend

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A Providence club has been ordered to close Friday and Saturday following a triple shooting over the weekend.

The Providence Board of Licenses ordered to close Levels Lounge on Broad Street for previous violations not related to the shooting.

Providence police said three men were shot outside of Levels Lounge and the neighboring Rent-A-Center on Sunday shortly after 2 a.m.

Dylan Conley, the chair of Providence Board of Licenses said the triple shooting had nothing to do with the club.

“The shooting was not affiliated with the operation of the establishment, the victims were inside, it appears  someone was looking for the victims and once they left the establishment, they were attacked,” Conley said.

The board came to that conclusion after police reviewed surveillance footage showing that the incident happened outside of the club, with bullets flying across the street to the Rent-A-Center.

“I’m always very upset when an incident occurs, the victims are certainly the individuals involved directly, but indirectly it’s the establishment it happened in front of, more indirectly it’s the entire city, I get deeply concerned when anything like this happens,” Conley explained.

During a show cause hearing Wednesday, it was decided that Levels Lounge will close this Friday and Saturday due to a previous violation of conditions to operate.

“Levels is ordered to close for two days based on a previous violation, it’s within agreement with the establishment, the police still have an ongoing safety concern because police still haven’t identified the assailant,” Conley explained further.

Conley added the club closing this weekend will help with the ongoing safety concerns.

ABC 6 News reached out to Levels Lounge and are waiting to hear back.

Meanwhile, the victims of Sunday’s shooting are not pressing charges and are expected to recover.
