Providence Bruins Beat Portland Pirates At The Dunk

PROVIDENCE, R. I. –The puck dropped at 3:05pm at the Dunkin Donuts Center to start the game against the Portland Pirates.
It was a slow start for both teams. At 4:26, Portland’s #19 Henrik Samuelsson was called for a hooking penalty. With 3:51 left, Portland’s #16 Greg Carey was called for a slashing penalty. Bruins did not pull through during either power play. Providence’s #11 Tyler Randell was called for a roughing penalty with only 1:20 left. The period ended scoreless with Providence leading shots on goal with 10 and 5 for Portland.
Both the Providence Bruins and the Portland Pirates came into the second period ready to put an end to a scoreless game. 2:18 into the period, the gloves and helmets came off of Providence’s Tommy Cross and Portland’s Phil Lane. At 3:35, Providence’s #10 Rob Flick scored the first goal of the game with help from #23 Spencer Asuchak and #28 Ian White. Not long after, Providence’s Asuchak shot the puck into the back of Portland’s net with assistance from #44 Steve Eminger at 8:47. With 9:22 left in the second, Portland’s #12 Justin Hodgman scored the Pirates first goal of the night. Pirates tied up the game when they scored again with only 2:13 left in the period.
P-Bruins came into the third eager to take the lead. At 8:55, Providence’s Rob Flick scored his second goal of the game and third of the season with assistance from Asuchak and #38 Corey Kane. Portland Pirates, eager to tie up the game again, pulled goalie Mannino with only 54 seconds left in the game, but did not pull through with a goal. The Providence Bruins won the game against the Portland Pirates 3-2.
