PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – The Providence City Council voted Thursday night to approve union contracts for local teachers and municipal employees.
The Council voted unanimously to approve a new contract for Local 1033, representing public employees in state, school and municipal positions across the state.
The vote to approve a new three-year deal for the Providence Teachers Union passed 14-1.
Councilman John Igliozzi was the lone vote against approving the new contract.
The approval marks the end of a standoff between the city and teachers since the union’s previous contract expired in 2017.
