Providence City Council to hold emergency meeting Tuesday, will discuss recent violence

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE)- The Providence City Council has scheduled an emergency meeting for Tuesday night at 5:30 p.m. to discuss a plan to combat the violent crimes in the city.

According to the council’s webpage, the following will be discussed at the meeting:

  • Public safety action plan to address increase in violent crime
  • Enforcement of ordinance prohibiting ATVs
  • Public safety budget and staffing
  • Perception of lack of safety
  • Impact on city and neighborhoods

The council has invited Providence police Commissioner Steven Pare, Colonel Hugh T. Clements, Jr., Michael Imondi, President of the Providence Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge #3, and Cedric Huntley, Executive Director of the Nonviolence Institute to attend the meeting.
