Providence City Council to mull final passage of police-community relations amendments

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Providence City Council members will meet tonight at 6 p.m. to consider a final vote on changes to the city’s Community Police Relations Act.

The proposed amendments to the act are related to the immigration enforcement language of the bill.

They would expand kinds of prohibited contact between Providence police and ICE officers.

“Protected Spaces” would also be established in the city according to an amendment, and another would set limitations on the collection and disclosure of sensitive personal data.

Final passage of the gas-powered leaf blower ban will also be considered by the body.
