PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A Providence city councilor was hit by a van in California over the weekend.

Parker Gavigan, a spokesman for the City Council, said Tuesday Councilor Helen Anthony was hit Saturday in northern California.

“Helen is a friend and a colleague. We wish her a speedy recovery,” said Council President Rachel Miller.

Gavigan said Anthony’s family reports that she’s stable.

Anthony represents Ward 2 and serves on several committees, including the Finance Committee, where she’s the chairwoman.

“Chairwoman Anthony is a leader both in the City Council and in our community, which is why I join the city of Providence in wishing her a full and speedy recovery,” said Mayor Brett Smiley.

Anthony has been part of the City Council for four years.
