In the midst of an August heat wave, Providence announces it’s closed its city pools.
The five pools are closed due to a buildup of calcium first observed after heavy rains last week.
Calcium buildup can cause water to look cloudy and impede visibility.
The city’s 12 waterparks, however, remain open.
Providence has also arranged transportation to pools at the South Side Boys and Girls Club and Pleasant View School which will be open to the public at no cost while the issue is being resolved.
