Dozens of rowdy Providence College students stormed the streets just outside of campus early this morning and the huge crowd now has administrators on alert for what might happen after tomorrow night’s NCAA against the University of North Carolina.
Thursday night’s last second win has Friar fans feeling confident going into their next game against the top seed in the bracket.
"Everyone was going nuts. I’ve never seen anyone that excited before my roommates and I were going crazy,” said PC senior Kevin Masone.
"It was really crazy I was actually in bed but I heard the screams around campus,” said PC sophomore Meagan Ross.
The PC men’s basketball team won their first NCAA tournament game since 1997 and students took to the streets to celebrate. As one student recalls, things got a little out of hand.
"I got badly bruised you can still see the blood on my pants and my hand. Kids in there are pretty reckless…people start throwing elbows and it gets a little crazy,” said PC sophomore Conor Holway.
All of that celebrating after the first round of the tournament you can only imagine what will happen if the friars upset number one seeded North Carolina Saturday night.
"We actually had a meeting earlier this week with our security team and Providence Police, specifically to talk about this coming weekend because between St. Patrick’s Day yesterday, the games this weekend, the St. Patrick’s Day parade which is not too far from campus on Saturday, obviously we’re expecting a lot of excitement in and around this area,” said Steve Maurano, Associate VP of Public Affairs at Providence College.
In an effort to keep students on campus and under control for the game, the school will be setting up a large viewing party just outside some of the dorms.
"Two large trucks with video boards on them, and we’ll have an area for students to congregate and watch. We’ll probably have several different food options out there, either food trucks or tables of food,” said Maurano.
