Providence College students rally for Palestine

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Students at Providence College joined the nationwide movement of pro-Palestinian rallies Wednesday.

Protesters gathered in a demonstration amid the ongoing Israel-Hamas war, saying they wanted to show support to other students in Rhode Island who have been protesting.

“It’s much more destructive for the students in Gaza, there are no universities left,” said Anthony Tinaro, a Providence College student. “Thousands of children, students, just like me, have been brutally murdered. If that’s not a disruption worthy of walking out…then I don’t know what is.”

The group called for Providence College to release an official statement showing solidarity with the Palestinian people.

“Founded in the Christian love that the Dominican Friars will talk about, which I genuinely believe in, I think it is the duty of a Christian institution like this one to take a moral stance on such a horrifying situation,” Tinaro said.

Students at Brown University recently reached an agreement with administrators Tuesday after a weeklong encampment calling for divestment.
