Providence DPW worker accused of stealing coins from parking meters

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A Providence Department of Public Works (DPW) employee is facing multiple charges related to accusations that he stole coins from city parking meters.

According to a Providence police representative, Kristopher Stetson, 45, has been charged with:

  • Three counts of embezzlement
  • Three counts of larceny
  • Three counts of driving without consent of the owner

The investigation into Stetson began after Providence police were informed of the alleged theft of parking meter money.

Providence police conducted an investigation in conjunction with the DPW, and Stetson was identified as the suspect after he was allegedly observed removing coins from multiple parking meters.

A search warrant of his home was executed and investigators seized a large number of coins, according to Providence police.
