Providence fentanyl trafficker sentenced to federal prison

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A Providence man was sentenced to federal prison on Tuesday for trafficking fentanyl.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office said 30-year-old Hector Diaz was sentenced to six years in prison on drug charges.

Diaz was found to have made more than a half-dozen substantial-sized deliveries of fentanyl to another person beginning in late November 2021, according to authorities.

The Attorney General’s Office said each delivery was monitored by members of the FBI Rhode Island Safe Streets Task Force.

Diaz pleaded guilty to a charge of distribution of fentanyl on Nov. 28, 2023, in addition to a charge of conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute 40 grams or more of fentanyl, per officials.

He was sentenced to 72 months of incarceration, followed by four years of federal supervised release.
