Providence Hurricane Barrier gates closed due to weather

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Mayor Smiley announced the closure of Providence’s hurricane barrier gates due to storm surge.
The US Army Corps of Engineers has closed the Providence River gates the street gate located on Bridge St.
There will be no access on Bridge St. and only local traffic will have access to India St.
Mayor Smiley stated, “Out of an abundance of caution for the safety of our residents and visitors, we have decided to close hurricane barrier gates to prevent flooding and mitigate storm damage.”
