PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Providence leaders celebrated the grand reopening of the historic Paragon Mill on Wednesday.

Mayor Brett Smiley and affordable housing advocates held a ceremony at the property at 144 Delaine Street.

The complex in the Olneyville neighborhood is now a home for those making low to medium income. The renovation plans included about 100 apartment units.

The Alexander Company, the real estate development company that led the construction, created 44 affordable housing units and 57 workforce units.

Beginning in 1898, the mill, powered by the Woonasquatucket River, was used to make wool.

The mill underwent renovations after ceasing operations back in the 1960s.
