Providence man accused in Johnston used car dealership shooting given bail

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The man accused in connection to a shooting at a used car dealership in Johnston was granted bail after his arraignment Monday.
According to prosecutors, 44-year-old Ramon Abreu, of Providence, is charged with two counts of felony assault and battery, carrying a handgun without a license, carrying a stolen firearm while committing a crime of violence, possession of a firearm by a person convicted of a violent crime, disorderly conduct and firing in a compact area.
He was given $200,000 bail and ordered to have no contact with the victim
During the arraignment, police said that on October 12, Abreu was at City Limit Auto when an argument broke out between him and two employees over damaged tools.
Following the argument, it is alleged that Abreu left the dealership and came back shortly after, shooting at the two men, striking one of them in the knee. The victim was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
After shooting, one of the men, who was not injured, said he saw Abreu flee the scene in a black Lexus.
The next morning, authorities learned that Abreu was working at the Alpine Body Shop on Cranston Street in Providence. A warrant for Abreu’s arrest was obtained and police arrested him at the shop.
A locker belonging to Abreu was later searched inside the body shop, where police found what they believe to be the gun used in the shooting.
Abreu has two active cases out of Boston from 2016 and 2020, both of which are violent crimes and currently pending.
He is scheduled to return to court in January 2024.
