Providence man accused of attacking woman with machete arraigned on felony charges
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A man accused of slashing a woman in the face with a machete in Providence was arraigned on Tuesday.
Charles Manuel, 70, appeared in Providence District Court on charges of felony assault and battery and assault on a person over 60 causing bodily injury, also a felony.
Manuel was released on $10,000 bail with surety. He was ordered not to contact the victim, Dalia Montalvo.
According to a police report obtained by ABC 6 News, police were called to a three-story residence on Grove Street at about 5:45 p.m. Monday for a report of an attack on a woman with a machete.

Officers went right upstairs “due to the severity of the crime.”
Manuel was found standing inside the doorway with his hands hidden behind his back.
He slowly complied to reveal his hands and was arrested without incident.
Montalvo was taken to Rhode Island Hospital, where she is expected to recover.
Manuel has a court date set for Jan. 17, 2024.
