Providence man accused of killing sister, stabbing mother
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A Providence man is accused of killing his sister and seriously wounding his mother early Wednesday morning.
Police arrested 29-year-old Wesney Clairsainvil of Providence after a 28-year-old woman was fatally stabbed getting into her car outside of her home on Adelaide Avenue at around 5:10 a.m.
Police said their mother who was also stabbed, is in critical condition at nearby hospital.
Police say the mother was stabbed after trying to stop the suspect.
“It’s a terrible situation,” said Maj. David Lapatin. “We resolved it as fast as we could.”
The suspect was apprehended by Providence police and SWAT team while hiding in a home on Public Street.
Police did not immediately release the victims’ names.
While police did not immediately release a motive, officials said anyone with mental health concerns are encouraged to reach out to local police.
The stabbing marked the 14th homicide in Providence in 2023.
