Providence man accused of stabbing roommate to death to face judge

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A man who authorities say stabbed his roommate to death in Providence this past summer will be arraigned on Tuesday.

Yomar Espada, 28, will face a Providence Superior Court judge on a second degree murder charge.

He was originally set to appear in court earlier this month.

Police responded to a Sterling Avenue home for a reported stabbing after a residency dispute in broad daylight on Wednesday, July 26.

Officers found 30-year-old William Sarmiento suffering from multiple stab wounds on Judith Street. Sarmiento later died at Rhode Island Hospital.

Police said Espada was living with Sarmiento.

Espada fled the scene and was arrested hours later.
