Providence man admits to trafficking methamphetamines

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Acting United States Attorney Sara Miron Bloom said a Providence man was convicted of trafficking methamphetamines for the second time.

40-year-old David Vasbinder pled guilty to a charge of possession with intent to distribute five grams or more of methamphetamine.

Vasbinder was arrested in 2022 after an officer stopped him for speeding and learned that an arrest warrant for him was pending in Providence.

A search of his vehicle then found 126 grams of 100% pure methamphetamine, various items used in the packaging and distribution of drugs, and $972 in cash.

He was previously convicted of two counts of possession with intent to distribute 50 grams or more of crystal methamphetamine in October 2019 and was sentenced to 48 months in prison to be followed by three years of supervised release.

Vasbinder is scheduled to be sentenced on Oct. 2.
