Providence man arrested at Newton train station after multi-state chase

NEWTON, Mass. (WLNE) — A Providence man was arrested in Newton after a multi-state chase involving a stolen car on Friday.
The Massachusetts State Police Department said 22-year-old Emanual Salmeron was taken into custody and faces a multitude of charges, including failure to stop for police and theft of a motor vehicle.
State police said they were advised at 5:38 p.m. Friday that Woonsocket police were pursuing a car reported as stolen out of Rhode Island on Route 1 in the Foxborough area.
A trooper joined the chase, observing the stolen car hit another vehicle at Sumner Street in Norwood before turning off onto a side street.
Police said the other driver escaped unscathed.
Newton police picked up the chase, finding the stolen car at the Riverside MBTA station, where the driver attempted to run down the tracks.
Officers caught and detained the man, later identified as Salmeron, who was transferred into state police custody.
Authorities said Salmeron had multiple indicators of alcohol impairment and refused to identify himself to police.
Salmeron was identified by his fingerprints at the State Police Foxboro Barracks, where he was treated for minor injuries.
Police said Salmeron was charged with the following offenses:
- Fugitive from justice
- Failure to stop for police
- Refusing to identify himself for police
- Giving a false name to police
- Larceny of a motor vehicle
- Reckless operation of a motor vehicle
- Leaving the scene of a crash causing property damage
- Unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle
- OUI Liquor, 3rd offense
- Speeding
- Marked lanes violation
- Failure to stop/yield at traffic sign or signal
The Woonsocket Police Department will seek their own separate charges against Salmeron, who was the subject of three outstanding warrants, per officials.
