Providence man charged for fentanyl possession

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The Providence Police Department said a 31-year-old man was arrested and charged with alleged fentanyl possession on Jan. 14.

Jamal Rogers was charged with possession of fentanyl.

Police responded to Dorrance Street around 7:30 p.m. to speak with a victim who said she was robbed at knifepoint by a man wearing a skull mask.

The woman had sustained minor scrapes and bruises after apparently falling down.

Police said that they found Rogers, who matched the description of the suspect, at Kennedy Plaza and arrested him for allegedly possessing fentanyl.

Officers then spoke with witnesses in the area, who told them that the woman appeared to be the aggressor, who fell after trying to reach into Rogers’ pockets, after which he walked away.

The department added that witnesses said they did not see a knife.

The incident is under investigation.
