Providence man charged in drug, gun bust held without bail

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A Providence man facing numerous drug and gun charges was held without bail after his arraignment Tuesday.

Philip DeBartolo, 39, faced a judge in Providence County Superior Court.

He is accused of selling marijuana from his house on Douglas Avenue in Providence and another house in West Warwick.

DeBartolo was arrested in March after an investigation by police in both communities, as well as the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the Urban Violent Crime Task Force.

Authorities searched both properties and found several ghost guns, 25 large-capacity magazines, almost 20 kilograms of marijuana, a stolen gun, and drug paraphernalia.

Prosecutors revealed in court Tuesday they have filed for advanced penalties against DeBartolo, as they said he is a habitual offender. Those additional charges were not immediately released in court.

DeBartolo’s defense reserved any arguments against granting him bail.

He is expected back in court in December.
