Providence man charged in late-night Taunton crash

TAUNTON, MA (WLNE) — The Taunton Police Department said that a Providence man will be charged in connection with a two car crash that occurred on Route 44 in Taunton on July 17.

The 38-year-old will be charged with operating under the influence of alcohol, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, and marked lanes violation.

Police said the crash at the intersection of Burt Street and Winthrop Street occurred around 9:30 p.m.

The two cars “appeared to have crashed head-on” after one swerved into the opposite lane.

The department said that officers who spoked to one driver reported an odor of alcohol.

Both the drivers were transported to a Rhode Island hospital for their injuries.
