Providence man faces gun, drug charges

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A Providence man is facing gun and drug charges, Rhode Island State Police said Friday.
Jeanleary Gomez Alejo, 32, was arrested by the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Task Force.
Police said he was arrested on weapons charges while in possession of fentanyl and xylazine, a non-opioid synthetic narcotic which is commonly used as a cutting agent with fentanyl. It does not respond to overdose treatments with Narcan or Naloxone.
His arrest was the result of an investigation into fentanyl distribution and the execution of search warrants at apartments on Cass Street and Tobey Street.
Police said five firearms were taken, including one that was stolen.
Officers also found 145 grams of fentanyl, 98 grams of xylazine, drug paraphernalia, and $1,300 in cash.
Alejo was charged with numerous gun and drug offenses.
He was held without bail at his arraignment in Providence District Court. He was remanded to the Adult Corrections Institution.
Alejo has a status conference set for next Thursday.
