Providence man found guilty in firearms trafficking scheme that involved the Dominican Republic

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Attorney General Peter Neronha said that a Providence man has been found guilty of buying firearms and then selling them to individuals prohibited from purchasing them.

Amado Duverge was found guilty of two counts of purchasing or transferring a firearm on behalf of a person prohibited under state or federal law, two counts of conspiracy to sell concealable weapons without proper paperwork, one count of providing false information in securing a firearm, and one count of selling concealable weapons without proper paperwork.

The 38-year-old was arrested in March 2022 with a co-conspirator for after a two-month investigation by the Providence Police Department.

Duverge was accused of purchasing firearms on behalf of people prohibited from buying them, selling concealable weapons without proper paperwork, and providing false information on a firearm purchase application.

When police executed a warrant on his Clarence Street residence they found seven firearms and over 5,000 rounds of ammunition.

Neronha said that Duverge later admitted to buying the firearms for others, including shipping them to the Dominican Republic.
