Providence man injured while waiting for soup kitchen to open

A Providence man was left injured after a man assaulted him while waiting for a soup kitchen to open early Sunday morning.

Police tell ABC 6 a man, whose identity is not available, was waiting in line at Grace Church located on Mathewson Street for a soup kitchen to open when he was assaulted at 6:45 a.m. on June 7th.

The victim told Police he got into a verbal argument with someone he recognized before the suspect threw a bottle at his face but he couldn’t remember his name.

The victim suffered a laceration to the mouth and broken teeth and was transported to Rhode Island Hospital.

He described the suspect to be a white male, 5’10” tall, wearing a red jacket and white pants at the time of the assault.

Police do not have any suspects at this time and say the case remains under investigation.
