Providence man sentenced for illegal firearm

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A Providence man has been sentenced to eight years at the Adult Correctional Institutions (ACI) on illegal firearms charges.
Terrance Fisher, 28, entered a plea of nolo contendere on February 20 to one count of carrying a pistol without a license and one count of possession of a pistol that was modified to fire automatically.
He was sentenced to 20 years, with eight to serve at the ACI and a 12-year suspended sentence.
Fisher will serve 20 years probation upon his release.
On April 13, 2023, Providence police responded to a call of a man dressed in all black with a firearm in Billy Taylor Park, which is known to police for it gang activity.
Members of the Providence Police Department’s Violent Crime Task Force responded to the park, and the defendant grabbed at his waistband, tossed an object over a nearby fence and fled the scene.
After Fisher was apprehended, the object was recovered, a .40 caliber Glock-22 pistol with a laser attachment and a device called an auto sear, which allows the pistol to be fired automatically.
“Here, investigators acted swiftly to remove a dangerous defendant and weapon from the community,” said Providence Police Colonel Oscar L. Perez, Jr. “I praise the efforts of all those involved in the investigation and prosecution of this case.”
