PROVIDENCE, R.I. – A Providence man wanted for sex trafficking two teenagers was sentenced to 60 months in federal prison on Wednesday.
21-year-old Mackenzy Scott, plead guilty in September for conspiring to commit sex trafficking of minors.
Authorities say in December 2014, Scott, as well as 21-year-old Cristian Garcia, of Providence, were advertising provocative photographs of a 14-year-old and a 16-year-old girl on the website Backpage.com
The advertisement offered the opportunity to have sex with the teenagers.
At the sentencing, Scott was ordered to serve an additional 5 years of supervised release upon completion of his prison term.
Garcia was sentenced on October 27th, 2016, to 24 months in federal prison, also with an additional 5 years supervised release.
United States Attorney Peter F. Neronha said, “The defendant sold children for sex, plain and simple. The thought of anyone engaging in such conduct, and of children being victimized in this way, is almost unimaginable, and yet we see it over and over again. We must continue to aggressively pursue those who, like this defendant, view children, and in some instances, adults, not as people, but as a means to satisfy their own greed.”
