Providence man sentenced in 2023 gang-related shooting
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A Providence man has been sentenced to 12 years at the ACI for his role in a gang-related shooting in 2023, according to Rhode Island Attorney General Peter F. Neronha.
Isaiah Isom, 20, will serve 22 years of probation upon his release from the ACI, and he was issued a no contact order with the victims.
Isom pleaded nolo contendere on February 3 to two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, one count of discharge of a firearm resulting in no injury and one count of conspiracy to commit an assault with a dangerous weapon.
The incident occurred on March 16, 2023, when Providence police responded to the intersection of North Main and Onley Streets for calls of shots fired.
Officers located the victim whose vehicle sustained multiple bullet holes.
The victim told officers that a white SUV was driving south in the northbound lane of North Main Street.
An occupant of the vehicle fired shots at a blue SUV driving south.
Three .40 caliber shell casings were discovered by officers on the road.
Providence police and the Providence field office of the ATF executed warrants on April 11 leading to the arrest of a known Chad Brown gang member suspected to be involved in the shooting.
Text messages between the gang member and Isom show that the two shared news articles about the shooting and also discussed their roles in the incident.
Isom was arrested on September 12, and he admitted to associating with the gang, riding in the suspect SUV during the shooting and sending the text messages.
