Providence man sentenced in cocaine trafficking, kidnapping conspiracy

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A Providence man convicted in a drug trafficking plot that involved the kidnapping of a U.S. Postal worker was sentenced Tuesday.
Irving Medina, 36, was sentenced to 70 months in prison and four years of federal supervised release after being found to possess 500 grams or more of cocaine with intent to distribute.
Medina admitted that his co-conspirators abducted a USPS employee in an effort to locate missing drugs.
The letter carrier was kidnapped at gunpoint on June 21, 2021, driven to his home and interrogated about the missing cocaine.
The letter carrier was released after Medina and his co-conspirators learned the postal worker knew nothing about the missing drugs.
Three packages each containing approximately one kilogram of cocaine were seized by law enforcement.
A court-authorized search warrant served on Medina’s home on August 31, 2021 uncovered fifty bags of fentanyl, three bags of cocaine base, cutting agent and other narcotics trafficking items.
