Providence man sentenced in OUI head-on crash that seriously injured elderly man

FALL RIVER, Mass. (WLNE) — A Providence man has been convicted and sentenced after to pleading guilty to OUI charges in a 2024 head-on crash that left an elderly man significantly injured.

According to the Bristol County DA’s office, Anthony Flores, 27, pleaded guilty on September 25 to charges of:

  • Operating under the influence causing serious bodily injury
  • Reckless operation of a motor vehicle
  • Assault and battery with a dangerous weapon

He was sentenced to two-and-a-half to four years in state prison with two years probation upon release.

The incident occurred on April 20, 2024 on South Main Street in Freetown, where arriving officers investigated a two-car crash at approximately 5:30 p.m.

According to Bristol County Deputy District Attorney Jennifer Sowa, police determined that Flores was driving his vehicle in a southward direction, while the 68-year-old victim was driving northbound.

According to data recorded by Flores’ vehicle, he was driving 59 mph at the time of impact in the posted 35 mph speed limit zone.

Flores was found unresponsive at the scene and was extricated from his vehicle and transported to an area hospital.

Police also determined that Flores was texting on his cellphone at the time of the crash.

Testing determined that Flores had a blood alcohol level double the legal limit at the time, according to Sowa.

The elderly victim suffered significant injuries in the incident, including a broken wrist, foot and tibia, as well as internal organ damage.
