Providence man sentenced to 14 years for possessing illegal firearms and fentanyl

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE)- A Providence man will be serving 14 years in the ACI following a 2020 arrest for illegally possessing two pistols and fentanyl.

Francisco Vega, 36, pleaded nolo contendere to possession with the intent to deliver fentanyl, possessing a pistol without a license, and two counts of possessing a firearm having a previous conviction for second-degree murder from February 12, 2002.

Providence Police Department identified Vega as a suspect before a traffic stop resulted in investigators finding a semi-automatic pistol with 11 rounds of ammunition. An executed search warrant resulted in police obtaining another semi-automatic pistol bearing 8 rounds of ammunition, 58.2 grams of fentanyl packaged separately, with smaller bags of cocaine and another 59 rounds of ammunition.
