PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A Providence man who admits to coercing more than a dozen minor females to engage in sexually explicit conduct online while he recorded their actions has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison.

Akinola Akinlapa, 23, engaged in these actions with approximately 75 minor females.

Akinlapa attempted to extort a Utah girl into performing a sex act on the internet, who feigned compliance and reported the incident to her mother who then reported it to West Valley City, Utah police.

West Valley City police and FBI agents in Salt Lake City identified the IP address at Akinlapa’s residence in Providence as the source of communication with the girl.

The Providence FBI Violent Crimes Against Children Task Force conducted a court-authorized search of computers and smart phones belonging to Akinlapa in 2020.

This evidence revealed that Akinlapa victimized 14 other underage girls and unsuccessfully attempted to do the same with approximately 60 other underage girls.

Akinlapa pleaded guilty to charges of enticement of a minor to engage in illicit sexual activity and possession of child pornography on June 15, 2022.

He was sentenced on Jan. 11 to serve 120 months in federal prison to be followed by eight years of federal supervised release.
