Providence market owner celebrates 105th birthday

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — City Councilman John Goncalves said he visited Friends Market on Brook Street to celebrate its owner Manuel Predoro’s 105th birthday.
Goncalves said that Manuel and his wife Maria have run the business for more than 75 years, and it was one of the first Portuguese-owned businesses in the state.
“Manuel and Maria Pedroso represent the very best of our community,” he said. “From their journey as immigrants to building one of the earliest Portuguese businesses in Rhode Island, their story is one of perseverance and commitment. They have inspired generations and remind us of the power of hard work and family values.”
