Providence Mayor Jorge Elorza tests positive for COVID-19

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Providence Mayor Jorge Elorza’s office said Thursday that the mayor tested positive for COVID-19.
Theresa Agonia, chief of external affairs, said Elorza had been experiencing symptoms and took an at-home test, which came back positive. The mayor scheduled a PCR test to confirm the positive result.
Elorza’s office said that the mayor is fully vaccinated and boosted. He has canceled all upcoming in-person meetings or events and will be working remotely.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidance, anyone who has had close contact with the mayor is advised to quarantine, get test, and wear a mask.
