Providence Mayor Smiley signs city’s $624 million budget
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Providence Mayor Brett Smiley just made the city’s budget official.
He signed it into law after it was passed by the city council Monday night.
The $624 million budget is in effect for fiscal year 2026, which started at the beginning of this month, and it includes some tax increases for homeowners and landlords.
Homeowners and landlords of single unit or two-to-five units can expect an increase of about six percent on their tax bill.
According to the city council, that would be about $240 extra.
The city’s tax levy is increased by nearly six percent.
