Providence Mayor Smiley signs FY2025 budget

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Providence Mayor Brett Smiley signed the city’s $599 million FY2025 budget Friday, with an emphasis on education, climate and public safety.
The budget allocates $135.5 million in education, which is an increase of $5.5 million.
The budget also focuses on making the city more resilient in the face of extreme weather occurrences, including funds to mitigate flooding risks.
Funds are also allocated for both the police and fire academies.
