Providence meter hours extending

Providence officials are hoping to bring in two million dollars this fiscal year by extending the hours you have to pay parking meters from 6pm until 9pm.
“The roll out for that will be ongoing signs will start coming up hopefully by sometime in March the first phase of the roll out will be complete,” said City Council President Luis Aponte.
Over on Federal Hill, the signs have already changed over. Most we caught up with unaware of the change. ABC 6 News didn’t run into anyone on the street in favor of having to feed the meter those extra three hours.
"Horrible, bad,” said Ramon Sanlatte. “Six is not enough, I think it’s bad."
"I’m not really a fan of it. I’m a college student so the six o’clock was nice,” said Lindsay Adam.
Aponte says the plan has been in the works for months.
"Keep an eye out signs will be changing over the next weeks and months,” said Aponte. "This is one way that we can enhance revenues without sticking additional burden on property owners and additional tax payers."
A spokesperson from the Mayor’s office says they are also considering raising prices per hour on meters for big events in the city. So far, no decision has been made.
