Providence middle school teacher charged with assault and possession to be arraigned

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A teacher at Nathanael Greene Middle School charged with possession of child sexual abuse material will be arraigned today.

50-year-old Joseph Gannon was arrested and charged with first degree sexual assault and one count of producing/transferring child pornography on Friday.

According to the district website Gannon was an 8th grade science teacher.

The district sent a letter to families of students at the school that said Gannon was placed on administrative leave and a suspected child abuse or neglect report was filed with the Department of Children, Youth, and Families.
